Occasion dresses – Hitting the right style notes!

When it comes to occasion dresses there are various assortments of exciting styles to choose from. These styles include floor-length ball gowns, dramatic off the shoulder pieces and ‘cutesy’ cocktail numbers.

With so many events in our diaries, knowing what’s right for each occasion can be confusing. A black tie event is one of the most popular ‘occasion wear’ affairs but it can cause a lot of confusion for those who are unused to the dress code. This event requires certain etiquette, as well as a strict dress code.

Depending on the style of the event, either a floor-length gown or a smart cocktail dress will suffice. Such occasion dresses can be simply accessorised with a pashmina, a clutch bag or some particularly smart heels.

Finish the style by elegantly sweeping your hair from your face into either a chignon or a delicate bun.

If your dress is relatively detailed, why not add a simple pair of pearl earrings as opposed to an abundance of jewellery? Halter neck dresses tend to draw a lot of attention to the neckline, so adding a necklace will only confuse the look and detract from the striking style.  To overcome this, opt for a statement bracelet or a pair of long earrings instead.

If you wish to create a statement look, choose an embellished dress. Head to toe beads can be a difficult look to pull off so opt for moderate embellishments. If you wish to highlight a certain part of your figure, such as your waist, neckline or bust, choose a dress that allows the embellishment to fall on these particular areas.

Some embellishments are extremely subtle, such as tone on tone embroidery, whilst others can be very striking. If you intend to wear an occasion dress that boasts eye-catching detailing at the top, keep your accessories to a minimum. If the detailing falls to the base of the gown, try to match your jewellery to this.

Those that wish to make a statement without embellishment can do so by applying an instant body lift. A corset dress will both cinch in your waist, whilst lifting the upper part of your body.

Many corset style dresses come complete with a built-in bodice. Such a style works to add curves to those with extremely slender figures and structure to those that possess a fuller figure. The end result is an outfit that offers all-round flattery.

Team with peep-toe shoes, blow dried locks and a statement necklace. Most strapless dresses require a showy necklace in order to fully bring the outfit to life.

Have a happy a Thursday! ^_^
